He is the author of Wealth and Life: Essays on the Intellectual History of Political Economy in Britain, 1848-1914 (2009). Professor Winch and UCL discussants Professor Doug Long (UCL Bentham Project)and Professor Jonathan Wolff (UCL Philosophy) will explore the extent to which wealth can or should constitute the cause and the measure of wellbeing. This will include consideration of how this debate has persisted from the beginnings of the British political economy, illustrating that it is both a key issue today and has arisen repeatedly in the past.
