Markus Gonzalez Beilfuss, Spanish Director General for Immigration

Malcolm Grant, President and Provost, UCL

This discussion, chaired by the BBC presenter Evan Davis, will include the former Home Secretary Charles Clarke, the Spanish Director General for Immigration Markus Gonzalez Beilfuss, Prospect editor David Goodhart and President and Provost of UCL Malcolm Grant.

Panelists will debate the challenges to policy making posed by the diversity of interests affected by immigration. The discussion will address questions such as: what are the main interests affected by immigration (economic interests, social interest)? How do we find an appropriate balance between these interests? In what direction should policy be moving, and how do we get the political consensus on immigration policies?

The discussion will conclude with a reception, 7-9pm, in the North and South Cloisters in the Wilkins Biulding (UCL main campus). The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and a number of NGOs, such as the Red Cross and the Refugee Council, will have exhibitions in the Cloisters.
